Corporate Fascism! 1 (Author's Preface)

A NEW SERIES

An Introduction to Corporate Fascism in America

“I have already intimated to you the
danger of parties in the state… Let me
now take a more comprehensive view, and
warn you in the most solemn manner against
the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.”

George Washington “The Farewell Address”
(italics are mine)

"As I would not be a slave,
so I would not be a master
this expresses my idea of democracy –
whatever differs from this,
to the extent of the difference, is no democracy."

Abraham Lincoln

"...This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence-economic, political, even spiritual-is felt in every city, every state house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society...

...We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together... "

Dwight D. Eisenhower
Soldier, Statesman, President of the United States of America

The Italian Fascist Dictator Mussolini had a dream, the dream of the corporate state, where all commerce was controlled indirectly through the power of an economic form of Fascism called Corporatism; with the invasion of Italy by the Allies this dream died.

But did it?

America, the land of the free, clandestinely, at that time, and today openly, has become the actual incarnation of this dream. Under the guise of “rights” and “freedoms” 2 , the Corporatism of modern capitalism has become a reality. The dictatorship of the Corporate Monopolies has become the true power in America; and the workplace has stolen all the freedoms and rights that the corrupt political parties say government has or will steal from us. Under the guise of patriotism and “the constitution”, the corrupt “Tea Party” organizers have beguiled the poor and working middle class, into the belief that the “Welfare State” will ruin them; when in reality, the Corporate Dictatorship that has caused the near depression that still plaques us through artificially inflated energy prices, the complete control of supplies and demands, and the instigation of wars through the military industrial complex is depriving Americans of all their rights and freedom, and has created the ultimate evil Empire that even Mussolini and Hitler could not imagine.

1 Let me preface this series with a few remarks.

What is happening in America today is a very old story; it’s the story of greed, and how it can use the logic of the motivations in the human psyche, to distort the freedom of society into a freedom that destroys society, and all the benefits it confers. We are seeing it played out in our neighbor to the South, Mexico, where the legitimacy of government is being blurred into the chaos of the breakdown of society through the power that wealth confers. Freedom based on wealth is distorting the meaning and benefit that social union creates. This freedom destroys trust, and with it the single link that distinguishes a human being from a wild animal. The slaughter that is occurring there is slowly infiltrating this country also. That is why I am presenting this series; to wake people up to the danger that is making its way into this country.

Our current politicians of both parties are oblivious to this; they show this in continuing to think that wars and destruction are the way to union; that power and wealth is what is important, instead of the trust and respect that grows from the bond society creates.

Today America is more divided and splintered then at any time since its origin. “Group mania” has seized it, and been propagated by the media and its owners as a ploy to turn our society into another third world state under the control of a few ruling Masters.

The meaning of freedom itself is at the bottom of all of this. Although I have broached this subject again and again in my essays, this series will show that there is a small group in this country that is trying to distort the meaning of freedom into its opposite.

We must renew the trust and respect that this “new” freedom is destroying. As all great soldiers know, war is no solution to anything. If anything it is the cause of further disruption, and the beginning of the end for true social union. But most of all we must remember that real freedom can only be attained and kept if it leaves no one behind.

A further Note on the use of the fasces:

I have used the symbol of the Fasces to decorate the web pages of this series. It was the symbol of the power of the government in the Roman state. During the Republic, those invested with the 'imperium' (governmental power) were escorted by lictors carrying the fasces; later when Rome lost all freedom, and became a dictatorial Empire it was used as the symbol of the power of Caesar (the Emperor). Later the Dictator Mussolini used this symbol as the symbol of Fascism, a dictatorship of the Corporate fascist state.

The reader should keep this symbol in mind as a symbol of how easily freedom can be made to appear as something totally different; of how easily Republics can be turned into Dictatorships because of the misinterpretation of just what freedom really is. Today we are seeing people all over the world struggle with the concept of freedom; torn between a freedom that seemingly has no limits, and is free to hurt others; and the freedom of a truly "free" people, that knows that freedom stretches only as far as the freedoms of others let it. Too many free people all over this world have lost all their freedom to the belief that freedom means the former instead of the latter. Let the symbol of the fasces remind them of this: The choice between ALL or the FEW.

Let it also be remembered how the name of the greatest patriot of ALL the people, Julius Caesar, could today be remembered as only another tyrant; just another one of those tyrants who stole his name, and distorted his ideals into the ideals representing only the FEW in power.

2 Today every sector of American Industry is controlled by huge Conglomerate Corporate Monopolies. Some of them multinational, and paying practically no taxes to the societies that have allowed them to grow. This is what "free" has come to mean in the term "free market economy." Because of this, plants and jobs are migrating to third world countries, while unemployment is rising and wages are falling here in the developed world. Speculators are amassing huge fortunes, using the meager funds of the laborers; and wars are becoming endless just to satisfy corporate bottom lines. Government budgets are nearing record highs, as they must try to support the huge disparity that this freedom has caused. And a country that was founded to leave no one behind is cutting its benefits to the poor, unemployed and elderly because the personal freedom of the glutton has replaced the responsible freedom that represented ALL.
