An Open Letter to the Government of the
United States of America
I offer this insight to our governmental political leaders in the hope that they will remember their obligations to all the individual citizens of these United States.
Today in America, because of the strangling hold that capitalistic economics has brought about, the unity of purpose that this government and its people are suppose to hold has been torn asunder in the rhetoric of parties, lobbies and greedy special interests. Our government no longer represents “all” the people, free of ideological partisanship, which this united states of many ideologies was supposed to represent, but has become the tool of the special interests to divide our unity into many “supposed” contradictory segments: right and left, young and old, rich and poor, able and infirm, black and white, Christian and non-Christian, etc.
This divisive aspect of economics and its capitalistic business philosophy has undermined the nature of our government and the very same freedom from preference it was created to uphold.
Government, the supposed savior and protector of our society has become instead the divisive tool of this “free” market to divide and polarize our nation, through substituting the competitive spirit of capitalism for the unity of purpose of democracy. The result is a nation divided in purpose, resolve and spirituality; the further result: partisanship, instead of unity, has become the new outlook for America.
If America will indeed weather this, without another civil conflict of vast proportions similar to our Civil War, government must indeed see that the divisive aspects, which the tentacles of this “so-called” free economics are creating, are only vaporous delusions. Government must forget the partisanship which the lobbies of capitalism has introduced, which indeed, our first president George Washington warned us against in his farewell address, and begin to see that party oriented government, with its ideological foundation, must be replaced with “problem solving” government, which addresses the needs of “all” in the solutions it forges.
We are a united people, of many ideologies, and government must further “all” in its solutions to societal problems, by implementing solutions that create no losers because of the special interests of ideology. Solutions cast in the form of a “no loser equitable” policy, are indeed the only acceptable solutions, because they create equity, despite the inequitable solutions of economics and its partisanship. We are not a society of monopolies or corporations, but a society of people, all of who are guaranteed the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Government cannot fulfill its responsibilities to all by upholding the ideologies of some; it can only create equitable non-partisan solutions by creating no societal “losers” in the creation of its laws.
Democracy represents all, not some; and it offers no sides, which create preference, despite the dictates of capitalism to the contrary. The opportunity of prosperity is guaranteed to all not just a few; that is indeed what Democracy is all about.
The disparity that is growing in America because of an inequitable economy is destroying the unity of purpose of our people. Our Democracy was created for this very reason: to preserve a societal unity of purpose. Partisanship is destroying this unity and turning America into a society at odds with itself. Do not be beguiled by the “freedom” of economics, it is the freedom of inequity, and just plain greed. It is the slavery we fought a war to free us from in another form. As Abraham Lincoln said: "As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master – this expresses my idea of democracy –
whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy." The difference mentioned here is the very same difference shown in the ever-widening disparity growing in this country between the haves and have-nots, as the results of the irresponsible freedom of capitalism. If we continue to ignore this, it will destroy us, all of us!
