CAIUS, THE MAKING OF THE HERO

The Novel That Started It All...

Having myself been broken on the wheel of life, cruelly and treacherously I thought, I too began my quest to find "Justice". I took the path of Boethius; and looked for Justice not through the corrupt practices of a broken society, but in a search for the processes of mind that originally molded them. In my search I found that others had likewise been set upon, among them the hero of my youth Caesar. Had he not also been victimized... and yet overcame... at least for a while? But History had not dealt kindly with him... Why? The forces he dealt with were still here with us; man had still not learned to deal with his own shortcomings. I wrote about what I thought were his motives. Were they real... or only my own fantasy? It mattered not at all; hero or villain in reality, my novel dealt with the same forces, which are still corrupting us. My Hero was each of us fighting in the same vicious society that even still exists; a family of heroes trying to change the world.

But I found that in the writing, I myself had changed. After finishing the novel, I found what I saw was the same old pattern, throughout History... and the same old motive, greed. In my research I had found the ancient concept of the Good, and made that my Hero's prime motive. So now I wrote on how this concept could, in fact, change this world, if given the chance. This book that you are reading is the result. But facts and theory are not the essence of the Good, only its corroborator. Feelings drive men on, and ultimately spur them into action. That is why I wrote the novel.

So if you would want what I call a "feeling symbol" to demonstrate the Good to you, read "Caius". Don't let the complex and confusing politics and factions of that time, prevent you from reading the story of a heroic family in their quest to defeat the same forces that still exist today.
